Presenting an assortment of digital art, oil paintings, graphite drawings, embroideries, among other mediums, the Visual Arts Senior Showcase exhibits work from the Chicago Academy for the Arts’ versatile Visual Arts Seniors: Francesca DeFrino, Ilse Marquez, Amy Li, Sherry Nan, and Kennedy Frye. The collection of individual portfolios act as a cumulation of work and growth done while at The Academy, and consider the powerful and youthful role of vision and perspective. Whether offering an exploration of modern political oppression, as seen in Sherry Nan’s work, or an escape from reality into the whimsical in Francesca DeFrino’s work, the senior class offers a youthful perspective to the tumultuous world around us. Exploring themes of childhood, identity, and environments, Amy Li, Ilse Marquez and Kennedy Frye manifest these grander concepts in remarkably different ways, as they document both their past and their ever changing present. Artists and students, seeking truth beyond the obvious and the tangible, offer fresh perspectives on modern issues and give new life to the mundane.
